“Giving Up on You,” the latest single from L.A. quintet the Wild Reeds, is one of those haplessly hopeful rockers about being torn between conflicting emotions. “I’m giving up on you tonight / I know somehow I’m gonna change my mind,” Mackenzie Howe sings, knowing she is fated to flip-flop.

The Michael Delaney-directed video for the song — the third single from the Wild Reeds’ new album “Cheers,” out March 8 — features Howe in moments of near-apoplexy in her bedroom, along with some goofy antics like having a band meeting on a rooftop and hitting the baseball field for some batting practice (aside: some serious batting tips are in order).

Notably, the Wild Reeds have dedicated the video to the late visual artist and musician Laura Peters of the band Psychic Love.

“The video was inspired by the theory of ‘spooky entanglement’ and the ways in which we look for signs from the universe to give us the courage to make tough decisions,” Howe says. “The video is dedicated to my dear friend Laura Peters of Psychic Love, who had been helping me with ideas for it prior to our director’s treatment. However, she passed away last month so we made it a point to honor her by using some of the artifacts I’ve been finding since then, such as the [Magic 8 Ball]. The character is essentially torn between moving on from someone/something — looking for signs to aid in making that decision — and also feeling helpless to their own attachment to it.”

The band — Howe along with Kinsey Lee, Sharon Silva, Nick Jones and Nick Phakpiseth — depart in early April on a long tour that winds up in L.A. in early June.

Will you cheer for “Cheers?” Outlook good.
