* More than 5,300 miles from their birthplace in Coventry, England, the Specials were honored today, with the City of Los Angeles declaring it “The Specials Day” and Councilwoman Monica Rodriguez saying that the band’s “legacy is emblematic of the strength derived from our diversity here in Los Angeles. Their music is an example that embracing our differences and uniqueness makes us more powerful.” Founding members Terry Hall and Horace Panter were on hand at City Hall to accept a commemorative certificate.

* In other news, the Specials’ concert at the House of Blues Anaheim, which was postponed Tuesday after Lynval Golding fell ill, has been rescheduled for Sunday.

The Specials’ show Tuesday night at the House of Blues Anaheim was postponed after Lynval Golding, the band’s 67-year-old guitarist and singer, fell ill shortly after the concert started.

According to a statement on the Special’s social media:

“Lynval was taken ill shortly before going onstage in Anaheim, CA last night and we had to cancel. After being checked over in hospital doctors advised rest where possible. Easier said than done with Mr Golding, who is adamant he’ll be in San Diego on Thursday. All other rumors of broken legs and band fights are colorful but thankfully untrue.”

Today is “The Specials Day” in the City of Los Angeles, honoring the British two-tone greats who are celebrating their 40th anniversary and recently released the new album “Encore,” the first from the founding trio of Golding, Horace Panter and Terry Hall since 1980.

The band is scheduled to receive an official commemorative certificate presentation today at L.A. City Hall.

The Specials are scheduled to play on Thursday and Friday in San Diego and on Saturday at the sold-out Novo in downtown Los Angeles.
