COULOU is the nom de tune of Orange County native Aaron Alcouloumre, a multi-instrumentalist and producer who has split time recently between Colorado, where he’s been attending college, and New York City, where he plays trumpet in seven-piece soul-pop ensemble Melt.

He’s also the most recent signee to Manimal, which on Friday release COULOU’s new single “About You.”

The follow-up to the artist’s “Thesis” EP released in January, the song is more evidence that in pop music, There’s Just Something About Trumpet. It’s a euphoric feeling, like when you first heard Capital Cities’ breakout song “Safe and Sound.” Like that trumpeter Spencer Ludwig’s solo work, COULOU weaves the language of his brass instrument into au courant electronic dance music production: vocals warped by effects, compressed beats and warm atmospherics.
