TV Heads’ expansive new rocker “Ribbons” is the kind of song you want along on every road trip, especially when there’s hope on the horizon.
The Bay Area-bred, L.A.-based quartet of Sean Galloway, Angelica Tavella, Vince Gutierrez and Jessica Lankford, today announced they will release their debut album, “Devotional,” on Jan. 21 via Oakland’s OIM Records. And “Ribbons,” with a gorgeous slow burn reminiscent of artists such as Band of Horses and Mercury Rev, is the lead track.
Director Ian Midgley’s riveting video for “Ribbons” spins a strange tale set in the desert (where strange tales are often set). A man and a woman are abducted, bound and gagged, and driven to a remote area. Bizarrely, their captors are sleeker versions of themselves, singing to them with bemused smiles as they are pulled from the car. What follows is some sort of weird baptismal … and a ride into a gorgeous desert sunset.
Are Midgley and TV Heads suggesting that we are all prisoners of ourselves seeking some sort of transformative rite to unlock our better selves? If so, throw us in the trunk.
The album, produced by Galloway and Tavella, is the follow-up to TV Heads’ debut EP released in 2016.
