Following up the debut EP they released earlier this year, L.A. dance-pop outfit Karmic has released the new single “Little Lucille.”

While not as smart (or as out-of-the-box) as the slice of “Wisdom Pie” they served up on “This Is Karmic,” it’s exemplary of the band’s orbit, which is around a disco ball at an erudite party in the late 1970s.

Their calling card is the dual vocals of Laura Baruch and Kylee Katch, which curl around the beats like the sweaty hand dragging you onto the dancefloor. Where so much modern electro-pop relies on muscle, Karmic’s is likably loose and limber.

The band — the singers, joined by Peter Kastner, Eric Stang, David Contreras and Ewan Wallace — conjured up the new tune while they were on tour in Europe and staying at an Austrian lakehouse. The lyrics had been hatched at a pre-tour getaway to Mexico.

“One of our memories from that trip was going into town and experiencing a torrential downpour of rain which flooded everything within minutes,” Stang remembers. “Eventually, the rain stopped and we went out and had a crazy night on the town. We really wanted to release a new song that was guaranteed to make people move. It was such a fun song to play, super catchy and the groove was infectious, so we had to choose it as our next single.”
