Mega Low, the Costa Mesa quartet with a secret life as a cover band and a strange dose of Snoop Dogg mojo, is charging ahead with the release of original material.
Today’s big news is “Yesterday’s News,” the second single from Spencer Askin, Trevin Eck, Spencer Wiles and Stefan Macarewich, and it’s rich, both sonically and in a colloquial sense. The sharp psych-rocker feels like a ’70s anthem propelled into the ’90s by a relentless groove, with honeyed vocals harboring no small amount of sardonic bite.
In the song, Askin calls out fakers who cultivate false narratives, explain away their actions and defer blame. “These people who let themselves get away with anything by just making up their own version of a story are so fascinating to me,” he says. “This is my ironic way of saying, it must be nice to let yourself be such an asshole.”
The tune is officially out on Friday.
