Ears Wide Open: Luke Wild

Luke Wild

Singer-songwriter Luke Wild is the kind of guy who was always a bit timid about being a solo artist. The Tampa, Fla., native dropped out of college to move to Atlanta to work as a songwriter, beatmaker and occasional touring guitarist, eventually toiling in a production capacity for the likes of Royal & The Serpent, Yoshi Flower and Hoodrich Pablo Juan.

As he relocated to Los Angeles late last year, Wild released his first single “Fever Brain,” which has since been “un-released” (as sometimes happens when a label gets involved). So “Drop Me Off in the Sky” is his first single for Terrible Records (home Empress Of, Kirin J Callinan and Miya Folick, and former home of Solange, Blood Orange and Twin Shadow).

With its seemingly effortless blitheness and thankfully tasteful production, “Drop Me Off in the Sky” shows off Wild’s pop chops, a strafing guitar riff (echoed the vocals) leading into the singer’s musings about being swept off his feet. It’s got a lot of bounce to the ounce … and it’s the first song off Wild’s forthcoming EP.
