There’s no doubt that L.A.-based Henry Wolfe is a crooner. He’s got the looks, the down-to-earth demeanor and a voice that takes on a strong new character with each song on his latest album “Linda Vista.” The son of Meryl Streep, Wolfe instills as much charm as melody in his pensive, pointed songs, and possesses enough of both to exhibit substantial star power. Bluesy vocals and harmonica are standout touches on mid-tempo ballads like “Used To Be,” and pop songs such as “Someone Else” sparkle with hummable piano parts recalling a bit of Paul McCartney’s magic. However, Wolfe is also able to go beyond the polite sound palette with folk-rock on “For the Turnstiles” to make a whimsically well-rounded collection of songs. Even the crazy puppets in the video for “Open the Door” seem enchanted.
