On the heels of last fall’s album release, SoCal indie-rockers Ariel View returned today with a fresh single. In today’s edition of Buzz Bands LA’s interview/artist playlist series QUARANTUNES, they say they’re keeping their energy high while itching to play shows (sound familiar?).
THE LATEST FROM ARIEL VIEW
Ariel View — sisters Harmonie and Heaven Martinez, along with Miranda Viramontes and Nadine Parra — cut their teeth in the Inland Empire, releasing their first collection of lo-fi, surf-rock-influenced music in 2015. They stepped up in a big way in 2019, signing with Epitaph Records and, last October, released their proper debut, “Until My Lungs Are Cleared.” It’s an album that lays bare their emotions over prickly yet melodic guitars.
The quartet returned today with their first single since the album, a cathartic rocker titled “Fake Friends.” “[It’s] a special song to us because it helped us get through a lot of tough times,” the band says. “It helps us remember that whoever has wronged us in the past doesn’t determine our happiness. And the most important person in your life is yourself! Loving yourself is first before anyone else. If you can’t love yourself then how can you love someone else?”
The highlight-reel video for the tunes was directed by Elizabeth Rae Flores.
HOW ARE YOU HOLDING UP AND WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO MANAGE THE ‘STAY AT HOME’ EDICT?
Harmonie Martinez: The one thing that’s keeping me sane for the stay at home rule is being able to have a steady routine. Working out and writing everyday has definitely helped me through all this.
Nadine Parra: Hanging out with my dog, Zoe, has been the best thing for me as well as trying to keep up as many projects as I can to fill my time. I’ve been learning how to garden and make a good cocktail.
WHAT ARE YOU MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO WHEN THIS IS OVER?
Harmonie Martinez: I’m looking forward to being able to go to shows, play shows with my band and hopefully go on tour soon!
Nadine Parra: I can’t wait to see all my friends again at shows! I miss the energy that comes from being with everyone and having a great time.
ANYTHING WE SHOULD KNOW ABOUT THIS PLAYLIST?
Harmonie Martinez: We each picked songs to throw into the playlist, my selection of songs have been on my “Repeat” and “Songs I Can’t Get Enough Of” playlists, so I’m glad I could share these songs with the world.
Nadine Parra: I chose my songs as a “break glass if feeling sad” playlist.
