Netflix “Rhythm & Flow” competition winner D Smoke will headline this year’s eighth annual Grand Park & Music Center Independence Day celebration, the “4th of July Block Party: Home Edition” — this year going off as a live stream on Saturday. The lineup also features San Cha, Ginger Root, Amindi and Thalma de Freitas.

“For seven years, Grand Park + The Music Center’s ‘4th of July Block Party’ has provided a space where neighbors from across Los Angeles were welcomed and invited to lift one another up through music, dancing and art,” said Rachel S. Moore, the Music Center CEO. “We may not be able to gather physically this year, but we can still bring a sense of unity to this virtual event, and appreciate the power of the arts to heal, connect and celebrate the diversity in our County.”

The program will also include a poetry reading by former L.A. poet laureate and bookstore owner Luis J. Rodriguez and youth equestrian Zoie Brogdon; DJ sets from 143 Worldwide and Cumbiatón; comedy by improv group Filipino AF; a cooking demonstration by Chef Jocelyn Ramirez of East L.A.’s Todo Verde; and profiles of L.A. movers and doers such as Shepard Fairey, restauranteurs Susan Feniger (Border Grill), Danny Trejo (Trejo’s Tacos, Trejo’s Coffee and Donuts), Johneric and Christine Concordia (The Parks Finest), designer and filmmaker Mikey Alfred (Illegal Civilization) and more.
