Jordi Up Late is an apt moniker for the 21-year-old multi-disciplinary artist who makes her musical debut on Wednesday with the single “Facts.”

The L.A. native — real name, Jordan Tager — dives into the world of minimal electro-pop with the limber, affecting “Facts,” which was produced with Undercover Dream Lovers’ Matt Koenig. It’s a slice of bedroom disco for delicate relationship dances, as Jordi’s airy vocals, over elastic beats, beseech a partner to be more realistic about expectations.

“‘Facts’ is about pleading to someone you love, who can’t see the potential of a relationship because they are caught up in shallow fantasy,” the songwriter says. “It’s about being able to see past flaws to the bigger picture and a deeper understanding of one another. The surreal nature of the album art and the lyric video reflects the loneliness and confinement of losing out to someone else’s expectations while also being able to see the potential through the window.”

Speaking of that art, music is not the only line on Jordi’s C.V., but one brushstroke in her creative world. She’s a graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design with a BFA in animation and also works in painting, ceramics and mixed media. She turned to music as a teenager as another avenue of expression, and, influenced by the likes of Daft Punk, Gorillaz, Little Dragon and James Blake, taught herself production by the time she was 15.

“Facts” is the first taste of an EP that Jordi will release later this year, with a full-length scheduled for 2021.
