Video: Slow Club, ‘Two Cousins’

British folk-pop duo Slow Club returns with a follow-up to 2009’s highly-regarded debut “Yeah, So” this fall. The sophomore release is titled “Paradise” (out Sept. 13 via Moshi Moshi), and indications are that Rebecca Taylor and Charles Watson’s quirky influences, ranging from Destiny’s Child to noise-pop, have borne fresh fruit of the bittersweet variety. The lyrics of “Two Cousins” preview the serious tone on the new album, even if it’s disguised with an upbeat pop chorus and beats that touch on R&B. Whereas their debut centered on obsessions, their follow-up will branch out to solemn subjects such as loss. (Does this sound familiar?) However, even with a heavier focus, Slow Club always manages to have their fun spin on releases. Their Lucy Needs-directed video for the lead track is a case in point.
