New York-born, California-based singer-songwriter Nick Brodeur is just 20 years old, but he’s already spent substantial time on both coasts sharpening his musical skills and chasing guitar-hero dreams.
On Friday, he released his first single since 2018, “Believe It’s Your Time.” It’s a laid-back pop song with some impressive guitar work, and Brodeur is donating all the proceeds to the Mark Wahlberg Youth Foundation. “This song was really important for me to write,” he says. “Jim Wahlberg asked me to create it in partnership with the Mark Wahlberg Youth Foundation. The organization aims to help people with addiction, as well as people who have lost their loved ones to the disease.” He adds, “The track is just meant as a reminder, to whoever may need it, [that] if you believe in yourself and you work hard, you can overcome your depression, or addiction, or get through any hard time.”
Upon first listen, it’s hard to tell that Brodeur’s biggest influences come from rock legends like Jimi Hendrix, Metallica and Guns N’ Roses. But as you keep listening, it becomes abundantly clear that Brodeur is a serious guitar player who pays homage to the greats. You need only to hang around for the high-speed, high-gain guitar solo ripping through it.
