Rounding up new tunes that arrived late last week: Sample songs from Talk Time, Broken Baby, Tennis System and Haim

TALK TIME, “U-Turn” (feat. Caroline Kingsbury)

The follow-up to last month’s single “Dead Weight,” “U-Turn” is a lush, airy throwback to the ’80s that features Caroline Kingsbury (who this spring released her album “Heaven’s Just a Flight,” much of which has a similar vibe). Like Kingsbury, the duo of Edson Choi and Mike Nissen also worked with producer Math Bishop on the song. “The song had been a staple of our live repertoire, but when we got into the studio it just felt like something was missing,” Talk Time says. “The day before tracking Mike hunkered down and redid the arrangement from scratch, emphasizing the beat and dynamic synths [that] the track ultimately ended up with. At the same time our producer Math Bishop hooked us up with a collaboration with one of our favorite singers, Caroline Kingsbury. Her guest vocals were a perfect way to complete the song.”

BROKEN BABY, “Get the Piss Up”

The follow-up to last year’s “Manic Panic” and last month’s tart “Madonna’s a Dick,” “Get the Piss Up” introduces Broken Baby’s sophomore album, “Late Stage Optimism,” arriving Sept. 24 via Poor Man Records. The band’s prickly pop-punk — “fearless, bold and maybe even a little stupid,” they say — is the work of Alex Dezen and Amber Bollinger, with the former’s jagged guitar licks setting the tone for the latter’s rage. With more of a riot grrrl-type edge than bands such as the Dollyrots, this one will get your blood pumping.

TENNIS SYSTEM, ‘Dizzy”

Miss shoegazing? “Dizzy” is the third single from Tennis System’s fourth album “Autophobia,” out this fall. If ennui could fly, here’s the song for it. “‘Dizzy’ is about the time I had during the pandemic to reflect on myself,” main man Matty Taylor says. “I used that time to really dive deep inside me and decide what I wanted out of life, or what’s left of it.” The video captures the bittersweet vibe, too. Tennis System has already teased the title track and “Truth Hurts.”

HAIM, “Cherry Flavored Stomach Ache”

There’s a little “You Can Call Me Al” vibe in “Cherry Flavored Stomach Ache,” the sister group’s first release since last year’s “Women in Music Pt. III.” It was written for the film “The Last Letter From Your Lover” (releasing July 23 on Netflix).
