Brooklyn-based band the Pains of Being Pure At Heart have mastered moodiness as well as any band from the old Sarah Records catalog. However, even they can’t seem to dodge the appeal of summer videos. The video for their latest single, “The Body,” has the musicians flash back to their happy and carefree childhoods while living out the mundane routines of grown-ups. Although their signature upbeat arrangements fit nicely with the visuals of crashing waves, the quintet hasn’t fully let go of their melancholic tones as we watch them stare blankly ahead as adults and hear Kip Berman sing, “I want you to tell me again what the body’s for / ‘Cause I can’t feel it anymore.” Oh, how they tug at our twee-heart strings.
