Early this year, Wallice Watanabe — just Wallice to her faithful — injected some light humor into songs about coming-of-age with her single “23.” Age is just a number, of course; dental work, that’s a real rite of passage.

“Wisdom Tooth,” her latest single, finds the singer-songwriter again allying with singer-songwriter-producer David Marinelli (Spill Tab) for a bop about love, loneliness and horrors beyond the dentist’s chair.

Jerry Maestas directs the video, and Wallice says: “When I had ‘Wisdom Tooth’ in mind I was a little stumped on how to make a dentist office visit interesting, but I knew I could trust Jerry to fill in the blanks. We’ve worked together for a couple years now, and each shoot we get more stylized with a perfect blend of both of our creative minds. I’m so happy with how this video came out.

She adds, “I wrote this song literally the evening before I went to get all four of my impacted teeth surgically removed, and I was terrified. I’m glad something good came out of that experience.”

The single is the jazz school dropout’s second since this summer’s release off her “Off the Rails” EP. That was followed by “Nothing Scares Me” as part of the Spotify Singles series, a song that found her teaming up with not only Marinelli but noted producer Ariel Rechtshaid.
