If the oldies were modern, they’d sound a lot like Alex Izenberg’s latest single, “Sorrows Blue Tapestry.”

Despite the mellow groove of the Izenberg’s creation, the new track actually stems from the loss of Izenberg’s best friend and signals the transformation he’s endured as a result.

“I wrote ‘Sorrows Blue Tapestry’ about my dog Larks after she died,” he says. “I realized I was going to die, too, and I stopped eating meat and started writing songs that were more influenced by my environment as a practice of acknowledging that we’re all rays of the same sun rather than 6 billion separate minds, coping with the fact that if you love someone they will always be with you, even if they die, you feel them.”

In the video, produced, directed and edited by Juliana and Nicola Giraffe, we see Izenberg enjoying a cup of tea, resting in deep thought and moseying through the great outdoors.

“Sorrows Blue Tapestry” is the follow-up to “Egyptian Cadillac,” which was released last month. Both singles will be featured on Izenberg’s forthcoming junior album, “I’m Not Here,” out May 20 via Domino imprint Weird World Records. The album is the follow-up to Izenberg’s 2020 full-length “Caravan Château.”
