[Happy birthday to Pete Yorn, 37 years old today. Here’s what’s up tonight …]
Your midweek mix:
‣ It’s a homecoming of sorts for Richie James Follin, the O.C. native who fronts (fronted?) the Willowz for four albums and now lives on the other coast making doo wop-meets-Kinks music as Guards. Guards have more substance in the first 2 minutes of “Resolution of One” than Cults have on their entire major-label album (and Follin played in Cults, with his sister Madeline, as recently as Coachella), but Cults gets the headlining slot tonight at the Echo. It’s worth early arrival to catch San Diego’s Writer as well. [Previously.]
‣ Cold Cave and Austra rock the Ukrainian Culture Center.
‣ At the Satellite, it’s Australian indie-poppers Cloud Control [see video], along with the Fiery Furnaces’ Eleanor Friedberger doing her solo thing.
‣ Good local lineup at the Central SAPC in Santa Monica – Correatown headlines, with Kissing Cousins and Tic Tic Boom supporting.
