Grand Performances returns for a full season of eclectic, free summer performances this year beginning June 4 and running through Sept. 24.
Scheduled for every Saturday at 6 p.m. at California Plaza in Downtown L.A. (except for June 18th’s earlier start on Father’s Day weekend at 2 p.m. and the Aug. 21 Sunday bonus program at Plummer Park), this year’s season includes tributes to bolero great Agustín Lara and spiritual jazz innovator Alice Coltrane, multi-cultured jazz fusion from the likes of the Aditya Prakash Ensemble and Extra Ancestral, experimental synth with Linafornia and Black Nile, performance art from Jibz Cameron AKA Dynasty Handbag, acoustic pop from Melissa Polinar and Renee Goust, funk from Scary Pockets, dance from Cumbiatón and sounds from throughout the world that have also made their home in Los Angeles.
Additional online content is also available for all who donate to become a member.
“This summer feels like a homecoming celebration, a new renaissance of live music in downtown Los Angeles,” said Stewart Irel, Grand Performances’ creative and artistic director. “After going through all the pandemic closures, this is our chance to come together again and reconnect through the joy of music, dance and the performing arts.”
California Plaza is located at 300 S. Grand Ave. in downtown Los Angeles, near the Pershing Square Metro Station (Red and Purple Line stops) and adjacent to the Angels Flight trolley. There will also be parking at the California Plaza Parking Structure for $10 beginning 90 minutes prior to show times.
