If ever there were a band deserving of an ostensibly self-referential song titled “Cult Star,” it is Fatal Jamz, the band led by a conjuror of glam-era ghosts who sounds very much alive, Marion Belle.
The project — Belle in collaboration with analog synth maestro Nicholas Allen Johns — last week announced the May 26 arrival of their sophomore album, “Fatal Attraction.” It’s their first since 2016’s “Coverboy,” though since then Belle’s soaring voice has appeared on other projects, including a solo EP.
Belle sings to a beloved DJ in “Cult Star,” a celestial synth-pop track that doesn’t leave the Milky Way of the 1980s and doesn’t need to. It’s the third single from Fatal Jamz since last June, when the band made a strong return with “Taste the Rain.”
