Ears Wide Open: Good Luck Bear

1

Christian Velky started Good Luck Bear as a solo project about five years ago, but his melody-rich pop seemed to find its full sound when Hoyt Adams and Leonard Tucker joined the lineup. The trio now boasts an album titled “The Nearest Faraway Place,” which includes indie rock tunes influenced by everything form surf-pop to twee to shoegaze. “Interchangeable Girls” is hummable from the very first verse where Velky fittingly sings about a number of gals named Mary, Wendy, Carrie, Becky and so on. Ladies men or not, Good Luck Bear are off on the right foot by honing the precision to pull off every genre they attempt. Guitars chug and riff, drums are solid and harmonies are in check to balance pop hooks and reverb.
