Coachella 2012: Dragonette, disco in the daylight

Who: Dragonette inside the Mojave tent.
In 3 or Fewer Words: This year’s Robyn.
Memorable Because: The moment the Canadian electro-pop band started “Hello,” their hit with French DJ Martin Solveig, the crowd’s cheers spread like wildfire, as if their only purpose in life was to dance until the next sunrise. But there were no strobe lights to set the mood and there weren’t any obnoxious glow sticks peppering the sea of hands in the air. For a band whose repertoire consists of sugary dance tunes, none of those superfluities ā surprisingly ā were necessary. There was an oddly organic sense to Dragonette’s early set, and sun rays crept into the tent almost as if they, too, were eager to bounce around in between bodies. Frontwoman Martina Sorbara, in a simple tank and jeans, was giving a straight-up pop performance as her radiant vocals relayed anthems such as newer tunes “My Legs Go Out Late Dancin'” and older favorites like as “Pick Up the Phone” and “Fixin’ to Thrill.” But it was their latest single “Let It Go” that pulled everyone at the massive daytime disco into the most intense dance delirium.
What Iād Tell My Friends Who Were at We Were Promised Jetpacks: See you at the discotheque next time.
