Coachella 2012: Feist, excitable in the evening air

0

Who: Feist at the Outdoor Theatre
In 3 or Fewer Words: Chronically classy.
Memorable Because: “This is an outtake from ‘The Chronic.’ It was supposed to be a B-side,” Feist announced after performing the intimate “Caught a Long Wind.” “You get it? It’s a Coachella joke!” Even with a majestic orchestra set up and Mountain Man members serving as backing vocalists behind her, Feist was in the mood to have fun, and the crowd adored her more for it. Saturday night’s headliners were just about to take the stage on the other side of the field, and the indie songstress seemed excited as anyone else. Creating a nice juxtaposition to her set of beautifully somber tunes like “Graveyard” and “The Bad in Each Other,” the former Broken Social Scene member knew how to bring all the stops out without a hint of rock star ego. But that voice which famously quivers so passionately with each note was a quick reminder to why her songs have held strong long after her fame with the iPod.
What I’d Tell My Friends Kasabian: I bet it wasn’t worth it to miss Feist.
