[Some new tracks from a few bands who have or will come to town this week…]
A Place to Bury Strangers, “You Are the One” – NY noise-rock trio recently returned to L.A. for a show at the Echoplex in support of their “Onwards to the Wall” EP, which only serves as a teaser to their forthcoming record “Worship” (due out June 26 on Dead Oceans). The first single, “You Are the One,” cements the band’s strengths in spacey, smokey shoegaze as guitars crush, wail and almost hiss in dark atmospherics.
Waters, “Take Me Out to the Coast” – Port O’Brien mourners will continue to exist, but many (including this blog) seem to be content with what Van Pierszalowski has conjured up for Waters’ debut “Out in the Light” in 2011 (via TDB Records). With songs that could easily blend in with any of your ’90s indie rock mixtapes from college, Waters’ melodies are energized from the first crunchy chord to the last note Pierszalowski urgently sings. Waters will be playing Friday at the Music Box with the Delta Spirit.
Gauntlet Hair, “Keep Time” – APTBS’s labelmates Gauntlet Hair stop by the Satellite on Friday, and the Denver duo will be bringing their raucous, reverb-heavy pop melodies with them. Known for for their shimmering but vociferous arrangements, Gauntlet Hair’s debut record on Dead Oceans is full of unhinged but wonderfully elaborate guitar jams. Check out their video for “Keep Time.”
