When the Gray Kid isn’t manning up in the kitchen or hanging with Daniel Baldwin, the L.A. soul man is busy finishing up “The Cost of Living,” his first album with the band he has assembled, Spirit Animal. In the meantime, he recently loaded up his website with enough complimentary music to make your hard drive dance. Newest is “Free Music,” a six-track EP produced by the Kid, Computer Jay and Detroit production team the Amps. Deeper on the website is a trove of just about everything the Gray Kid has done – I highly recommend the “Vultures” and “… 5, 6, 7, 8” albums. Happy connecting.

Baby Champ, the Long Beach trio of Bob Fink, Kenn Shane and Greg Doyle, is being generous with their music as well. Their second and third albums, “Faya” and “Maya,” are available for download. Baby Champ’s indie rock is a bit all over the map, with some referents as obvious as Nirvana and Dinosaur Jr., but other material taking a noisier, spazzier bent. There’s some lovingly bent pop in there too. Good stuff from a band that might not be on very many radars.
