Quite a night at the Echo on Monday – it was packed to the gills for Fool’s Gold, then packed again for the midnight set of Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros. The late act then proceeded to play for an hour-plus and come back for an encore. Which you just don’t see out of the folks playing the midnight set very often. Hey, NPR liked them too. Sharpe has scheduled shows at the Regent Theater on three consecutive Thursdays beginning April 30. The band also has a digital EP on the way, with a full-length due July 14.
‣ Also: Hey, procrastinators, as of a little while ago, My Bloody Valentine’s no-longer-secret show Thursday at the El Rey was not sold out. … Download Ariel Aparacio’s cover of “Pretty in Pink,” and 54 cents goes to the breast cancer charity the Susan G. Komen for the Cure. … Speaking of good causes, Waxploitation’s “Causes 2” – the label’s second benefit for Darfur-related charities – will be out May 5, featuring tracks from LCD Soundsystem, the Decemberists, Gnarls Barkley, My Morning Jacket and a host of others. Here’s the MySpace page. … And Dublab has a pretty cool podcast of the set Mia Doi Todd performed in the rainforest room at the Natural History Museum earlier this year. (She has a new album of instrumentals, “Morning Music.”)
