The new single from the Soft Pack announces itself with a driving, anthemic roar, as if the L.A.-via-San Diego quartet are pronouncing themselves ready to bust out of the garage and assume their rightful place in a big theater (or small arena) near you. Which, if you caught any of their recent live performances, is where you suspected they should be all along. In unveiling “Saratoga” today, the quartet announced that its new album “Strapped” would be out Sept. 25 via Mexican Summer. They also had a bit in their press release that made us chuckle: “In making [the new album], the group took to heart a quote from the sage Pasadena thinker David Lee Roth that goes something like: ”˜The first rule of rock ’n’ roll is if it sounds good, it is good.’” This sounds good.
