Western Scene emerged in May as the latest vehicle for ex-Dynamite Walls singer-guitarist Tom Pritchard, who teamed up with Jason Burkhart and a handful of resumé-toting players (including Jonathan Hischke, who played with Broken Bells, and all-star drummer/producer Joey Waronker) to fashion a more polished take on indie rock. Their work in the studio with Hugo Nicolson (Primal Scream, Julian Cope and one of the engineers on Radiohead’s “In Rainbows) is yielding lush, melodic results – Western Scene’s new song “For You” sounds as if it could have from one of those Britpop stadium bands. Before we go holding our lighters aloft, though, we’ll see how Western Scene does at Silver Lake club tonight.
