Azure Ray emerged more than a decade ago seemingly out of the ether, the marriage of two angelic vocalists trading in hazy atmospherics. Their third album, 2003’s “Hold On Love,” which brought them into the Saddle Creek stable of artists, remains one of dream-pop’s stellar cloud formations. Collaborators Orenda Fink and Maria Taylor went on to solo projects after that, but they reconvened for 2010’s “Drawing Down the Moon.” Now Fink and Taylor are exploring new territory – minimalist electronica – and they make it work on the pulsing new song “Scattered Like Leaves.” The duo says their forthcoming EP “As Above So Below” (made with Todd Fink of the Faint and their longtime Athens, Ga., studio ally Andy LeMaster) was inspired by current artists such as James Blake and Nicolas Jaar. Works for us.
