Ears Wide Open: Act As If

Remember the first time you played “Spin the Bottle?” Some were more experienced than others, but the anticipation during the game is always innocent and sweet. Act As If‘s Joshua Martinez-directed music for the track “Oh My My” captures that moment perfectly under some soft lighting inside and bright sunshine outside. The L.A. band, whose members include Peter Verdell (vocals, guitar), Diego de la Rosa (drums), J. David Carrera (guitar) and Sara Lindsay (keys, vocals), have a pop sensibility that adheres to a certain purity, and it’s easy on the ears. Other songs such as the carefree pop-rock anthem “Running Wild” and the atmospheric ballad “You’ll Be Alright” on their “The Iron Is Hot” EP may not be far from a lot of pop-rock you’ve heard, but their soaring melodies work as a calling card.
