Ears Wide Open: Drive He Said

With his band the Santa Fe Seven, Maxim Ludwig embraced an intelligent, fun and unironic take on classic rock. His new project Drive He Said is similarly grounded in the classic too – the quintet that features Ben Reddell, Jorge Balbi, Will Walden and John Gilbertson sounds a little bit like the Boss if he fronted a Southern noise band. Drive He Said (named for the Jack Nicholson directorial debut, perhaps?) released its debut EP (free) today, and it boasts contributions from members of Harriet (Alex Casnoff on keys, Adam Gunther doing the production), as well as Matt Bernstein, Sean O’Brien, Mike Moonves and Caitlin Rose. The leadoff track, “Real Full-Time Guy,” speaks to our aspirations perfectly.
