Before her career as a dancer, actress and spokesmodel (but probably not before that huge mane of curls), Gavin Turek experimented with writing beats in her college dorm room. An online post here, a producer connection there, and a few years later Turek the singer was guesting on TOKiMONSTA’s “Creature Dreams” EP and working on her own album. Turek says her music is in part informed by her travels to Ghana and India, but most obvious are the bright, buzzing and breezy nights on the dancefloor. The single “Suffah” is sexy and modern and all dressed up for the disco, its taut beats firing on all cylinders, and likely to go over well at her upcoming residency in Santa Monica.
