Today: Where to start this evening’s bulging schedule except with Animal Collective? Having hit the Troubadour and the Music Box @ Fonda earlier in the year, the critical darlings now sell out the Wiltern. … The buzziest shows of the night seem to be the Passion Pit/Harlem Shakes/Cale Parks triad at the Echoplex [that’s Lexy Benaim of the Harlem Shakes, pictured, performing at SXSW] and the Black Moth Super Rainbow/School of Seven Bells/James Yuill lineup at the Troubadour. … Off the beaten path, Lykke Li is playing at Hollywood Forever, and Brightblack Morning Light hits the Eagle Rock Center for the Arts. … Rating high in the in-your-face quotient: The Briggs and Time Again at the Knitting Factory, and the Riverboat Gamblers and Miss Derringer at Spaceland. … King Khan & the Shrines play an 8 p.m. show at the Echo. … Interesting mix on the Sunset Strip: VAST, with Leerone opening, plays the Key Club; Lisa Donnelly celebrates the release of “We Had a Thing” at the Roxy; and Traveling Saints hit the Viper Room. … The Tender Box and Venus Infers are part of a big lineup at O.C.’s Galaxy Concert Theatre. … Dancing? It’s Tiga and James Murphy of LCD Soundsystem at the Avalon. … Also: Butch Walker at the El Rey; Jon Brion at Largo and Solomon’s Seal in Largo’s Little Room; Greg Laswell at the Hotel Cafe; On Blast at the Scene in Glendale; Propagandhi at the Glass House; and I’ve probably forgotten something, forgive me.
Saturday: The Flatlanders, with Joe Ely, Jimmie Dale Gilmore and Butch Hancock, visit the Troubadour. … BuFest, offering 70 acts on three stages, launches the first of its two-day run at the Paramount Movie Ranch. … Langhorne Slim headlines Spaceland. … Bishop Lamont does the same at the House of Blues. … Also: The Black Moth Super Rainbow/School of Seven Bells buses move to the Detroit Bar in Costa Mesa; the Passion Pit/Harlem Shakes trailers move to the Glass House in Pomona; King Khan does a second night at the Echo; Buddy plays the Hotel Cafe; and Wolf Eyes plays Gilbert’s.
Sunday: This month’s installment of Kidrockers features Langhorne Slim and One Trick Pony – doors for parents and their wee ones open at 1 p.m. … David Serby celebrates the release of his new album, “Honky Tonk and Vine,” at the Grand Ole Echo night at the Echo. … We Are Scientists surface at the Detroit Bar in Costa Mesa. … Le Switch and Les Blanks go crosstown to play the Dakota Lounge in Santa Monica. … The Rosewood Thieves visit the Bootleg Theater. … Also: Propagandhi at the Echoplex; the Briggs at the Glass House; and Meredith Meyer at Pehrspace.
