The biggest surprise about the Bixby Knolls‘ album “Near & Undear” is actually that it’s finally being released. Anybody who’s seen the L.A. quartet around town knows their game – dark, edgy rock mixed with driving anthems, all of which sound as if they could have blared out of a London pub in 1991. Work on the album began two-plus years ago with a producer who knows edgy, Joe Cardamone of the Icarus Line. Cardamone not only left all the Bixby Knolls’ nerves exposed, he ripped a few loose himself, as with the single “Runnin’ and Runnin’,” a roughed-up Northern soul scorcher that sees Curt Barlage, Sammy Fayed, Cesar Saez De Nanclares and Christian Morales both raw and propulsive. “Near & Undear” is out digitally on Tuesday.
