Ears Wide Open: Ablebody

Christoph Hochheim may be familiar to fans of the Pains of Being Pure at Heart and the Depreciation Guild, but his sounds under the moniker Ablebody may not. Not as twee the former and not as shoegaze-heavy as the latter, Hochheim’s debut EP “All My Everybody” is an amalgamation of all those dreamy elements in between, sounds just outside of his purview as touring guitarist for the other bands. If the Twilight Zone were remade a third time around, perhaps Ablebody would be the perfect soundtrack to the modern yet still creepy mannequin-centered stories in the mall. With Hochheim’s twists and turns, it’s wonky electro-pop with a dark side in songs like his new single “Phantasy,” but those familiar baritone vocals – especially in “Sally Hot Jazz” – cut through the synth-and-reverb soup. “All My Everybody” is out now.
