February goes out like a lion on this Thursday:
‣ Australian electronic dance-rockers Gold Fields [pictured] – impressive last fall when they visited for Culture Collide and with their new album “Black Sun” out this week – headline the Troubadour, supported by A Silent Film and Royal Teeth.
‣ The albums of Matt Pond – who’s now lost the “PA” appellation that accompanied his name for eight albums and about as many EPs – occupy a large slice of real estate on the Buzz Bands LA shelves. The pop sophisticate added to his catalog this month with a very heady new album “The Lives Inside the Lines of You Hand.” Tonight, Pond opens for Jukebox the Ghost at the Echoplex on a night that also featured Lighthouse & the Whaler.
‣ Indie-rock vets Califone visit the Satellite behind the expanded re-release (double-vinyl, with new tracks) of the band’s 2000 album “Sometimes Good Weather Follows Bad People.” Radar Bros. – their new album “Eight” just out earlier this year – support, along with Dana Falconberry and Blues Oblique.
‣ Hustle Roses celebrate the release of the mixtape “Bitters” at the Bootleg celebrate at the Bootleg Bar, supported by Gabrielle Wortman’s new project TEMP3ST.
‣ Best time you can have with Fleetwood Mac without actually seeing Fleetwood Mac – Rumours: The Ultimate Fleetwood Mac Tribute (featuring members of Rooney, et al) inhabit the legendary band in song, dress and mannerisms. They headline the Roxy Theatre, supported by the Everyday Visuals and Kelly Jones.
‣ Happy Hollows rock Alex’s Bar in Long Beach, joined by American Males and Babies On Acid.
‣ And with many of our friends in Eastern climates blanketed in snow, why not spend a night in the park? Your “Only in L.A.” show is an event called “Grand Park Gotta Funky Sole” – the downtown L.A. park across from City Hall will be rocked by two sets from funkmeisters the Breakestra and DJs from the popular Funky Sole club night at the Echo.
