What we saw at SXSW.

Sixty-six seconds is the total time for Parquet Courts‘ “Smart Aleck Kid,” and that’s all the Brooklyn punk quartet needs to grab your attention. With spiraling lyrics and aggressive guitar riffs to drive the melody into your head, the tune is over before you even start to wonder where it’s going. As one of the B-sides of their “Borrowed Time” 7-inch, a single off their highly-regarded album “Light Up Gold,” it’s another nugget of in-your-face classic punk, full of adrenaline and recklessness. Led by Fergus & Geronimo’s Andrew Savage, Parquet Courts – which also includes his brother Max, Austin Brown (the Keepsies) and Sean Yeaton – all have fun riling up those sick of peace and quiet.
