Meg Myers came out of nowhere – well, actually a diner in Echo Park, via a church in Tennessee – early last year to plant her flag in the fertile soil once tilled by the like of Dolores O’Riordan and Sinead O’Connor. Myers’ six-song “Daughter in the Choir” EP was a mix of razor-sharp rock, dance-floor dynamics and electrified folk, positing her as vulnerable one moment and empowered the next. It got her thousands of free downloads and spins, and the attention of Atlantic Records. Her first release for the label is the single “Heart Heart Head” (hitting iTunes on April 23), a burner-turned-full-on-conflagration that finds the sprite of a singer as conflicted as ever. Head, heart, head, heart – thrashing it out in the studio once again the producer Doctor Rosen Rosen, Myers continues her one-woman quest for equilibrium, probably inspiring opposing cheering sections along the way.
