Stream: Tennis System, ‘Such a Drag’

Shoegaze acolytes Tennis System showed on their 2011 album “Teenagers” that they could play both sides of the noise game – gnarly, high-intensity dissonance on one hand and layered, painterly pop on the other. The quartet’s new single “Such a Drag” might just be next-level pretty, though … gorgeously harmonized guitars, notes bent in yearning and a chorus of properly lovelorn woo-woos, all building to a big finish. [For shoegaze heads only: See the final 1:45 of Kitchens of Distinction’s “Prince of Mars.”] The band – singer-guitarist Matty Taylor, guitarist Christopher Norman, bassist Marcus Russell and drummer Misha Bullock – have a new album in the works.
