Stream: Body Parts, ‘Desperation’

Body Parts’ experimental pop can be the aural equivalent of climbing a stairwell in an Escher. Where does this melody line lead? Does this combination of of rhythms work? What are Ryder Bach and Alina Cutrono singing about? There’s always a payoff, along with the sense they could churn out feel-good indie-pop on their coffee breaks if they wanted to. The new single “Desperation” is as straight-ahead as the quartet of Bach, Cutrono, Raymond Proudfoot and Taylor Dexter has sounded; still rhythmically nimble and newly catchy, the song will appear on their full-length debut, “Fire Dream,” due Oct. 29 via Father/Daughter Records. Body Parts won’t always be this easy (we don’t think), but “Desperation” is a good place to start.
