The Black Lips, Lucero, No Age [pictured], Lightning Bolt and the Thermals will be among the acts playing Sean Carlson’s FYF Fest (formerly known as the F Yeah Fest), scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 5, at Los Angeles Historic State Park in downtown. The lineup, announced today, includes locals such as Darker My Love, Dios, Avi Buffalo, Har Mar Superstar, Crystal Antlers, Peanut Butter Wolf and Mika Miko. Tickets ($20) go on sale Tuesday through Ticketweb.
‣ Same street, different vibe: The Sunset Strip Music Festival – the Opposite of Sunset Junction? You could say so. The second annual event, Sept. 10-12, features quite an array of bands: Korn, Chris Cornell, Pepper, Kottonmouth Kings, Shiny Toy Guns, LMFAO, Shwayze, Unwritten Law, the Donnas, Fishbone, Iglu & Hartly, the Pricks, Nico Stai, the Ringers, Thenewno2, Earl Greyhound, the Tender Box and Eulogies. The first two nights will fetaure club shows, then on Saturday, Sunset Boulevard will be closed off for a street festival. Street fest tickets: $39.50 in advance. Two-day pass: $99. Not a bad value, except you know that the West Hollywood Parking Robber Barons will have their fangs out too.
‣ Bono-endorsed: Can’t wait to get ahold of Robert Hilburn’s memoir, “Cornflakes With John Lennon” (to be released Oct. 13). In advance of the publication of the book, the ex-Los Angeles Times pop music critic Robert Hilburn has established a website, with a blog. Good readin’.
‣ Scene: Duke at You Set the Scene had an excellent roundup last week on developments involving local bands.
‣ Also: Singer-songwriter and Hotel Cafe mainstay Jim Hanft has signed with a Swedish label, Veranda Records, for his sophomore album. … Those My Chemical Romance shows over the weekend at the Roxy were apparently scorching. The band is in L.A. recording its fouth album with Brendan O’Brien. … The Henry Clay People perform at LaundroMatinee. … Wanna be in the Pity Party’s new video? “Dress in your best street clothes and bring friends,” says the band, and show up at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Nomad Gallery, 1993 Blake Ave.
I guess the Sunset Strip will always be that certain kind of “Rock and Roll”. Interesting to me that the Troubador is absent from the participation of the SSMF.
The side where the signature Sunset Strip venues are – Key Club, Roxy, etc – parking ranges from $5 – $8 dollars… and you don’t have to walk across a bridge that smells like someone couldn’t find a bathroom (to put it nicely).
Except on nights it is $10 or more, which happens sometimes on weekends.
How much is valet at Spaceland again?
3 bucks the last time I used it, which was in 2007.
