Download: Sir Sly, ‘Miracle’

Electro-pop trio Sir Sly crept onto the radar in late 2012 in the slipstream of several other bands spinning R&B cotton candy. While the Neighbourhood’s hip-hop lite has substantial meat on its bones, others have sounded very much like late-comers, struggling to find a distinct voice or anything beyond vaguely articulated romanticism couched in treacly melodies. The industry has treated this aesthetic as the new Motown sound, snapping up acts left and right. Cherrytree Records released Sir Sly’s EP in May, anchored as it was by the big, sighing, undeniable “Ghost.” The latest from the Landon Jacobs, Jason Suwito and Hayden Coplen is “Miracle,” an oozing earworm crooned over bedroom beats, a song that at least very least finds some truth by bending a chestnut: “I just want what I can’t have / And I can’t have a miracle.”
