This arrives … well, not in time for the holidays. But we’re sure it’ll be nicely wrapped anyhow. Silversun Pickups, now in their second decade of making glorious noise-pop, are releasing a vinyl boxed set of their singles. Dangerbird Records will unveil “Silversun Pickups: The Singles Collection” on Feb. 25, which, if our archives are correct, is almost 10 years after SSPU’s first independent release, a 7-inch single featuring a 7 1/2-minute version of “Lazy Eye.” The new collection, 11 songs in all, includes six 7-inch singles of the band’s hits, plus the new song “Cannibal” and a previously unreleased track “Devil’s Cup.” With its pugilistic bass line, “Cannibal” fits comfortably into SSPU’s catalog. Having taken a break after touring behind 2012’s full-length “Neck of the Woods,” the foursome of Brian Aubert, Nikki Monninger, Joe Lester and Christopher Guanlao soon will embark on writing their next album. “I have a lot of weird ideas that need to come out,” Aubert told Rolling Stone.
