The Happy Hollows, Parade of Lights and Act As If head up a huge lineup of local bands playing the LA Weekly Live Music Stage during the two-day Chinese New Year Festival in Chinatown on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 1 and 2. The festivities welcoming the Year of the Horse include the 115th Golden Dragon Parade on Saturday afternoon, which will draw thousands to view the pageantry along Hill and Broadway streets.

The event, free and all-ages, will kick off at noon each day. The bustling area around the Central and West Plazas (943-951 N. Broadway St.) in Chinatown will feature cultural performances, artisans, family activities, food trucks and a craft beer garden. The parade featuring Mayor Eric Garcetti as grand marshal runs from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday.

The music starts at noon each day, with indie rockers Hobart W Fink playing Saturday before the parade and A House for Lions playing immediately after. Then come Raw Geronimo and Line & Circle, leading into sets from Parade of Lights and the Happy Hollows. On Sunday, whiz kids Pretty Little Demons kick off the live music at noon, followed by Dreamland, Distant Cousins, Air Life and Act As If.

New to the festival this year are celebrations at satellite locations – Downtown Flea (727 N. Hill St.) and the Spring Festival (643 N. Spring). At the latter location on Saturday only, there will be music as well, with Mr. Elevator & the Brain Hotel, Princess Pangolin and more.
