Ears Wide Open: Run Things

L.A. trio Run Things may look and sound familiar. At least the vocals will bring you back if you were a fan of L.A. bands Anglos and Risers. Yes, Josh Thorpe and a couple of his old bandmates have risen from the ashes and have not only formed a new band, but they’ve taken their new material to producer Lewis Pesacov (Fool’s Fold, Foreign Born) for the finishing touches. Proof of that endeavor? Their A-side to their self-titled 7-inch titled “Dumb In the Sun,” a rich guitar-pop tune with breezy melodies. It’s an appropriately warm sound considering Thorpe rekindled his musical relationships with former Risers bandmates Gregory Shadwick and Daniel Goldbatt after repeatedly bumping into one another in Echo Park. Here’s to break-ups and make-ups in the neighborhood. Run Things’ “Dumb In the Sun” vinyl EP is out now via White Iris.
