There’s some meaning, and maybe a little bit of irony, behind the new Deluka single “Home.” The synth-pop band, built around the songwriting duo of Kris Kovacs and Ellie Innocenti, is, after all, on its third home since they formed in 2004 in Birmingham, England. Deluka subsequently departed the U.K. for New York, enjoying what turned out to be a temporary love affair with Brooklyn before alighting in Los Angeles – deciding, as Innocenti says, that NYC was “claustrophobic and cluttered.” In comparison to the more brooding material on 2010’s full-length “You Are the Night,” “Home” is chipper and upbeat and catchy in all the ways that your big, favorite synth-pop bands are catchy, if a little more mature. The song will appear on the forthcoming EP “Bonds,” made with producer Tim Pagnotta (Neon Trees). The lesson here, we suppose, is that home is wherever you can write a big, familiar chorus.
