Video: Gardens & Villa, ‘Colony Glen’

The Hans Lo-directed video for Gardens & Villa’s “Colony Glen,” with its oversaturation of magenta and cyan, has the feel of something just unveiled from a time capsule sealed in 1983. It’s perfect for much of the Santa Barbara quintet’s sophomore album “Dunes,” which came out early this month on Secretly Canadian. Nimble melodies, Chris Lynch’s high-as-a-kite vocals and Adam Rasmussen’s propulsive synths – plus the incorporation on bansari flutes – conspire to make “Dunes” a sticky update on ’80s New Wave. For some reason, we are reminded of these guys (i.e., the Duran Duran of Erie, Pa.).
