Nicky Blitz is the nom de tune of San Fernando Valley-bred, Miami-based Nick Scapa, a songwriter/producer whose credits include Icona Pop’s “Light Me Up.” Like a lot of commercial songwriters, he can sound like just about anybody he wants to, and on his new single he’s a banjo player trapped in the software, building a plucking riff into synth-pop paean to somebody named “Alex.” His older track “Summer Sinner” [update: since removed from Soundcloud, thank you] is a different vibe, or mix of vibes, a retro piano-driven riff giving way to something that alternates between dance-punk revival and ’70s schmaltz. It’s so catchy that deconstructing it kinda ruins the fun. So I’ll stop now.
