White Arrows’ sophomore album “In Bardo” is somewhat of a departure from the L.A.-based quintet’s big electro-tinged psych-pop, but not so much that Mickey Church’s falsetto goes unrecognized. Slightly darker and bit more on the psych-rock side, White Arrows’ first single “Leave It Alone” allowed the guitars to switch places with synths for the spotlight this time. Their new single “I Want a Taste” still percolates and shimmers with pulsating beats that will please their dance-happy fans, but melodies are moodier and the harmonies are kicked up a notch. White Arrows’ transition between old and new soundscapes is undeniable, but we’ve liked what we’ve tasted so far. “In Bardo” is slated for a September release via Votiv.
