When we first introduced Bom Bom back in January 2013, we figured they would be topping the radio charts in no time with the fresh pop track “Woman.” Vocalist Sophie Stern and producer David Greenbaum both knew better though; mapping out the next pop-perfect tune warrants some more time and tweaks. (Stern already has writing credits for Britney Spears, Conor Maynard and more under her belt, after all.) Since we last heard “Pray,” Bom Bom has been signed to a label, recorded an EP titled “The Shmixtape” and officially changed their moniker to Sophie and the Bom Boms, hence the reintroduction to our Ears Wide Open series. Sterns’ bright vocals remain the same, however, and those big pop beats are playful as ever in new songs like “Can’t Say Yes.” Sophie and the Bom Boms’ debut EP “The Shmixtape” is slated for a Sept. 22 release via Columbia.
